World Martial Arts Center: what do users think?

Stephen Tannen: Our family cannot recommend WMAC enough. The Sa Bo Nyms are firm, fair AND fun. The gender diversity is the highest of any dojang Ive visited in 30 years. Students can learn TKD, Hapkido or Kung Fu. It’s been a wonderful for our kiddos self esteem. Me? OEF USASOC Veteran and former Ranger.

Robert Ribciuc: Great program to instill self confidence, values and a growth mindset. Good mix of male and female students sends a good message that self defense and fitness are everyone’s business and further builds up confidence. Parking occasionally requires resourcefulness but there are additional paid lots and street parking nearby.

Jason Bain: I recently attended a trial for World Martial Arts Song Moo Kwan Hapkido Program. I have been a Hapkido student for several years and was very impressed with this program. First off I must say this is the most beautiful well thought out Martial Arts facility that I have ever been to.The school has a rich history and the Instructor Master Pat Carey is excellent and knowledgeable in both Hapkido and Taekwondo. The entire organization is very courteous and welcoming both students and Instructors. It can be difficult to find a Dojang teaching true and pure Hapkido that is not hybridized with Taekwondo but the school does a great job of keeping the two arts separate. I highly recommend anyone interested in an Excellent traditional Martial Arts program give World Martial Arts a try.

Thomas McDermott: I arrived at the The World Martial Arts Center with high expectations and yet somehow it has managed to exceed all of them. Here you will get World-Class instruction from individuals with decades of experience in martial arts. It is without a doubt the premier martial arts facility in the state of Minnesota. The World Martial Arts Center also has incredible history. Its Grandmaster Hee Sang Ro is an 9th Dan Black Belt in Taekwondo and is the son of the founder of Taekwondo, Byung Jick Ro.Whatever reason you have for being interested in martial arts, whether it be self-defense, physical fitness, confidence, discipline, self-control, spirituality, etc, I encourage you to go stop by and watch a class. You will not regret it.WMC is the best deal in town price-wise. There are no contracts or long term commitments and there is free parking on the streets behind the Dojang.Thank you to Master Steve, Master Carey and everyone at the World Martial Arts Center for helping me change my life.

Flow_Amv (Luis Angel): Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueI started about 3 months ago and it has helped me a lot. I do Taekwondo and after almost 2 months of training my legs got bigger. I was surprised that almost all my jeans didn’t fit me 😂. The school is great, classes really do work you and instructors are understanding.

Chris Salscheider: This is the best martial arts school ever anyone who says otherwise is not human

Kingabdi Jansb: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,Value

Coffee Cup: I stopped in because I'm new to the neighborhood. I was really impressed with the training as I watched as a guest. The owner greeted me and told me just how cheap the monthly rate was. I'm definitely planning on starting within the next month. I recommend others at least stop in.

Alex Cera: One of the best in the state.

GloriousSun250: I like this school for everything they give me from self-defense to form, but not the sparring, which is really important to me. There's no-contact point sparring and the free sparring is limiting. Otherwise this school's great!

Paul Schrater: Excellent instructors that actualize your potential. Great people, inclusive supportive and dedicated.

Rick Martinek: I took class there 1976 to 1983 and have enjoyed many of the finest instructors over those years. I'm glad to be returning next week after my Chaska branch closed down. Grandmaster Hee Sang Ro is the best in the business. Coming from Korea in 1976, Grandmaster Hee Ro took over the operation of the school and changed the name from Karate Center to World Martial Arts Center. In 2005, Mr. Patrick Carey and Steve Wankewycz joined Grandmaster Ro in the operation of the World Martial Arts Center. If you are looking for one of the best - visit this school.

Christina Super: individual attention, fantastic instructors. I have an existing back and hip issue, and they modified exercises for me! They even called when I missed 2 classes due to my hip bothering me, sounding concerned for me. I truly hope to go back and continue my training!

Aleks Till: I have been attending World Martial Arts Center since 1999. The school has the utmost concern for the well-being of students, and has a holistic and energetic approach to teaching martial arts. Its motto is: With enthusiasm and perseverance, nothing is impossible.Grandmaster Ro, who founded the school, still teaches there. It is extremely rare and is a privilege to have such an experienced martial arts instructor. This is someone who did not decide to teach taekwondo, but rather was raised to become this. His father founded one of the original taekwondo schools in Korea, and he has been training since he was a little boy. He understands anatomy, physiology, and the fosters the human potential for respect, confidence, discipline and focus. All of the other instructors at the school share an equal passion for learning and teaching. They each bring their own unique areas of expertise to the classroom, and make classes engaging and challenging. I always feel like I have more to learn, and reasons to feel good about my accomplishments so far.I never hesitate to recommend this school. If you are interested in learning martial arts from an authentic school, with instructors who are humble, knowledgeable and constantly bringing insight and new learnings to the class, then you will want to try World Martial Arts Center.

Z-Ultimate Self Defense Studios: what do users think?

Teresa Johnson: Sensei Ben is a great teacher! My kids and I enjoy learning from him.

C. Howard: Excellent self defense school! Our 7yo daughter can’t wait for her next class. She has been enrolled for 8 months. The instructors are really good and teach the kids to be respectful, focused and work hard. I highly recommend this studio for families who want to have their kids in a routine, learn respect and gain confidence in a fun way.

Michele Lloyd: I’ve been with Z-Ultimate around 4 years now. I’d been interested in martial arts since I was a kid, but I thought classes would be full of tough guys, and the teachers would be like drill sergeants, and it would be oh-so-serious. That image put me off. Then I found Z-Ultimate in Edina. The adult classes have students from a wide range of ages and abilities, and Ben Thomas is a gentle, encouraging teacher. We laugh a lot in class while learning effective techniques for defending ourselves. If you have been interested in the martial arts but have felt worried or intimidated by what you thought it was about, try Z-Ultimate. Martial arts will build your strength and confidence. And parents: Ben is amazing with the children.

Brian Jensen: sensei ben is great with our child who has learning differences. we've seen our son learn to pay much better attention at karate!

April Pream: son. I have never seen anyone so good at connecting with these kids. He has a gift. I tell everyone about Z-Ultimate. Best!

Cassidy Steiner: My kids love their lessons. Sensei Ben is so much fun, and such an effective teacher.

Joseph McKenna: I signed up for martial arts and self defense. I am extremely pleased. Great for fitness too. Master Ben is fast paced and an inspiration. 3 group classes a week that are fun and highly engaging. Plus indiviual lessons to keep improving your skill and fitness. Everyone should do this!

Josh John: Came to an introduction course with my fiancé’s coworkers. Fun to get exposure to different body relationships that I wouldn’t have considered a potential asset. Ben was great and I quickly found that the more I asked, the more value I got out of the team.ASK QUESTIONS and watch all the value start pouring out! Will definitely come again and take a more long term membership.

National Karate Academy of Martial Arts: what do users think?

S Y: The studio owner, Emily, is an inspiring leader and in touch with her customers and students. She is building a strong generation of leaders, and my kids love learning there.

Jessica Noble: The instructors are fantastic here. They are so great with my highly energetic 4 year old. They just exhibit the perfect balance of playfulness and firmness with the kids. They have so much patience with him and do so well to help him channel his energy. My child has learned so much and he is so excited to come every week. I also appreciate the class availability- so many options!

Jessica Strobel: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueLove Jeff and his team and National Karate! Love the scheduling and approach they take. My kid loves going everyday!

Emily Taege: Great place for your child to learn Karate. Love the owner and the staff at this establishment. They are great with kids, very encouraging, but also good at teaching other skills -- not just Karate. Discipline, respect, and determination. Very solid program with the tangible "rewards" -- getting those stripes on your belt are very impactful for encouraging my son to keep going. Due to COVID-19, they also converted all of their lessons to Zoom if you need it which is FANTASTIC, because now we can still attend if we are traveling or not feeling 100%. Love it! You should enroll your kids here.

Melissa Hoo: Amazing school! Great instructors, very knowledgeable. It is a great experience for adults that want to learn to defend themselves. I will be coming here for a long time for both karate and krav maga.

Minnesota Kali Group: what do users think?

Danny Faye: Best gym around. International presence. World renowned teachers and staff.

MOTO MUERTE: Great inclusive gym with one on one coaching option. Started here with no experience and have had a great time. The instructors are great and classes move along at a good pace. The classes develop in complexity over the course of the month and I would advise starting early in the month and consistently getting to a class.

Chris Smith: Best place to train for Muay Thai in the city. Highly recommended.

Sarah Davis: My daughter takes their youth classes and is absolutely beaming and excited after every hour spent with their instructors. Joe, Tim, and Kyle are truly wonderful humans who have found a perfect balance between instructing, inspiring, encouraging discipline and excellence but injecting the air with humor and kindness. We are transplants to the area and coming from LA I can say this type of environment for kids to learn about themselves, be in their bodies, and connect is a rare thing. Everyone from the front desk staff, to the other folks taking adult classes and as mentioned the amazing instructors are just an absolute joy to be around. Good vibes abound. These people will bring a smile to your face and inspire you and your family.

The Academy MN: what do users think?

Andrew Thomas: I've been going to The Academy for almost 10 years now! I would still be there but I have opened a Muay Thai/kickboxing gym in another country. This is by far the best Martial arts gym I've been too! I'm a bit biased because they have such a strong community that I was a part of. Even today being a world away, the coaches still keep in contact with me.It doesn't matter if you are going for fitness, Martial arts and/or to be a fighter. You will learn proper technique from world class coaches! They are very supportive in whatever path you choose. The biggest reason I felt it was necessary to open my own martial arts gym, was to bring this community to other people. It's not easy to recreate what the academy has. They are definitely very special. Thanks for the years of training and teachings I could not have done this without all I learned at The Academy. 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Dakotah Love: This place has changed my life, the coaches my training partners, everything good vibes, real skills, awesome fights, God only knows where I'd be without this place. Genuinely saved my life.

Karina Higareda: Dedicated, Honorable & Humble, these are my favorite words to describe this training facility. My now 16 yr old has been training at this top notch, top quality coaching studio for over a year and hands down they’ve never let us down & have impressed my son and I with their skilled training & dedicated coaching. I highly recommend & encourage people looking to level up their game to train here, you will not be disappointed. Keep up the excellent work!

Pámela Boveda Aguirre: I had the chance to train a nogi class here today, and I loved the place, the environment, the facility is super clean and confortable! you have a lot of different options in their schedule! and they have worked with many pro athletes! I had a great experience and recommend the place for sure! Also the level of the girls that train there is very good, bjj competitors with a lot of experience.

Keith Burnham: Very good training for adults and children. Coaching is talented and robust. My 16 year old son's life has been transformed in just 4 weeks at this school. He is just a beginner, but his habits and life trajectory have been impacted in an unbelievable way. More than the trophies and belts on the wall..... this experience will last a lifetime.

Sam Guinan-Nyhart: Excellent training center. Friendly, welcoming and skilled! I dropped in over the holidays and spent a great couple hours here.

Chase Taylor: Great place. Employees are very welcoming and encouraging to get people involved. Definitely a community you would like to be a part of

Andrew Vuong: Great environment and classes!

Darrick Mattox: My daughter loves it and so do we

Cella Westray: Dropped in visiting in town and looking for a place to practice. The coaches seem top-notch and extremely knowledgeable. It’s a great community they have here--not only welcoming but also somewhere to push each other to get better, which I always appreciate! Thanks again for welcoming me, I will definitely be coming back if I ever move back to the Twin Cities area!

Tanner Martinson: Top of the line facility. Not only that but top of the line coaches and training partners as well. Great environment.

Frederick Frederickson: Large multi-disciplinary training center with an equipped gym as well.

Christopher Foecke: Good variety of styles and skill levels

Isaiah Nolan: I been to gyms all over the United States for the past 10 years and the Academy is the best of the best. Super knowledgeable instructors, clean environment, and a great community of kind and accepting students.

Russell Martinez: he coaches are very knowledgeable and staff is helpful! I like how it’s a month to month membership and not long contract!

Pedro Mosquera: The best experience you have to know among all, without a doubt, knowing and belonging to this wonderful and excellent martial arts academy.A fully equipped space to develop your potential and acquire skills. The highly qualified staff with an excellent human touch make the experience even more enjoyable. With the best motto, that if you assume it as part of your life, you will be the best version of yourself every day.OPERA NON VERBA.

Steve Henry: The Academy is an extremely impressive training facility. As a 37 year old construction worker I deal will general soreness on a regular basis. After working out here for less than two months I have lost 20 pounds, eliminated what I thought was chronic hip pain, and discovered the will power to break a decade long smoking habit. The heath benefits of training martial arts are undeniable and The Academy allows you to learn from extremely legit martial artists NO MATTER YOUR SKILL OR FITNESS LEVEL. I can’t thank head coach Greg Nelson and his team enough, 10/10 would recommend.

Krav Maga Minneapolis LLC: what do users think?

Trevor Barsamian: Located on the lower level now

Gabriel Kind: . It's not a sport, it's not a competition, it's not an "art," it's a supportive group of folks helping each-other learn a life-saving skill without taking themselves too seriously.

Brian Gitonga: Great instructors real world application to real world scenarios

Jessica A Taylor: Informative. Fun. Friendly. Inviting. It’s so necessary to know how to defend yourself. Good workout. Nice options.

Jesse Hauf: Fun informative classes! Great group of people. Very safe and clean

Jacob AB: I've been going there a while. For extra precautions because of the covid pandemic, they are training outside, maintaining social distancing, inreasing frequency of sanitizing, among other things. People only do what feels comfortable to each person.

The Cellar Gym: what do users think?

Nathan Johnson:

Suki Moen:

Gabriela Cole:

Kailey Everett: This has been my second home for the last several years! If you are having doubts just give it a try! We have all been there and it takes a lot of courage to try something new but it is so worth it! I started just because I wanted to find a way to exercise that was less boring than running on a treadmill and now, I am a part of the fight team and have rooted myself in an amazing community that has helped me not just physically but socially and emotionally. The coaches are amazing and willing to go out of their way and sacrifice their time to help you. They have a great kids program with amazing caring coaches. I don't know what I could do without this gym. Whether you want to join for mental or physical health reasons or compete at the highest level this is the gym for you!

Ken Tran: Recently, I completed the 6 week challenge, which gave me the motivation to come back and start attending classes again. For the challenge we were to attend kickboxing classes 3 times a week. Originally I was signed up for Muay Thai, as I found it to be an interesting art, but after the challenge, I found I enjoyed the kickboxing a lot and signed up for that instead.I was worried about finding time to attend, but they have so many classes on their schedule that I can always find a class that matches my schedule, no matter how much my schedule changes week to week. While I worked the fair, I was able to attend morning classes. When I went back to my normal work schedule they had a class almost every night of the week. The coaches are absolutely phenomenal. Being that there are so many classes, there are also a few coaches, and they all teach their classes differently, while still changing it up from class to class. Not only are you getting a satisfying workout, but you are getting a variety that promises you'll never get bored. As for the people, they are all very friendly. Although I attend classes alone, there is always somebody to practice with. Often we end up pairing up, and if you didn't bring a friend you'll have to make a new friend. I have not had one bad experience with all of the people I have worked with. As great as a place is, if the people aren't friendly, then it basically becomes a chore to attend. I actually find myself looking forward to attending classes and meeting new people.Overall, I would highly recommend taking a look at this gym. The classes are great and flexible; the coaches are knowledgeable and helpful; and the people are extremely friendly.UPDATE 9/4/19-11 months later and I still find myself getting excited to attend classes everyday. In fact, sometimes I dread holidays or vacations due to the classes I'd have to miss. I've started many hobbies and quit after a month or two because I was bored or just didn't feel like I belonged. Here I feel like everyone is so inclusive and welcoming.I've expanded from kickboxing and Muay Thai into Brazillian Jiu Jitsu and am loving it just as much as the other two. Unfortunately, this does mean I do have to cut back on one of the other two in order to participate, but that's what I get for wanting to try everything. One important thing to note is that The Cellar is not just for the combatants looking to get into the or improve their fighting prowess. Yes, if that is what you're looking for, this place is amazing, but for an average Joe, Jill or whoever, this is a good place to meet new friends and get in a fun workout.Update 1/10/2024-5 years later and still going! The gym has gone through some changes.- There is a new location in a much easier location within the Rosedale Commons. The space is much larger and gives us a ton of room to play in.- The new owners aren't new to the gym and have been part of the infrastructure for longer than I have been a member. They are doing an amazing job and have adapted to the post COVID world with some welcome changes- We have new coaches in the mix with the ones we have before and that has provided even more opportunity for all of us to learn and grow.I have been sticking to the "Average Joe" aspect of training. Although I have gone back to Muay Thai only, I am continuing to have a ton of fun while staying active. I still get to meet new people from all walks of life and learn from some of the most amazing people. I cannot recommend this gym enough.

Justin Anderson: I wanted to train Muay Thai for a while. I have completed my first five classes. The gym facility is exceptional. The classes are what I wanted: challenging! The coaches/trainers keep the class moving, are helpful and clear in their instructions. I did an initial trial membership which helped me determine if The Cellar would be a good fit. I appreciate there are a lot of different classes available at different times.

Peyton Krause: Nice people and awesome gym!

Joshua Hoekstra: First week here was amazing! Everyone is super friendly and made getting into something new very welcoming.

Aaron Sanders: Great gym , great people ,great experience couldn't recommend it enough! And wouldn't recommend something else.

lucio clasher: , and a great learning environment for anyone from beginner to pro. All the members ive talked to have been very nice and welcoming.

Kitsune Karate: what do users think?

Jacqueline Leach: My son was hooked from his first class, the instructors are great at keeping things moving while being both motivating and encouraging. Very welcoming atmosphere.

Scott Gregg: Kitsune Karate has been my home dojo for five years. The instructors are extremely knowledge and motivating. The kids program is fun and produces very good athletes. The adult program focuses on the "art" of traditional karate, with an emphasis on real world self-defence applications. Kitsune is a Shotokan karate school that strives to maintain tradition, but also explore innovation. As such, we regularly welcome students of other schools and styles.

Stuart Hazard: without foregoing the discipline and formality that many seek from the martial arts and that promote safety and learning. My favorite characteristic, however, is that at Kitsune we are encouraged to learn from anyone who has something of value to teach.

Mjoe T: because of the high quality instruction they receive at Kitsune. I know this will be a life long endeavor for my son. If keeping your mind focused and your body in shape; and if you have a desire to learn many, very good self defense tactics and Katas

Cynthia Haakana: ! Shotokan karate is taught by Amy and Scott and they are fantastic instructors. As a 4th degree black belt, I have had many teachers and they are superb—-professional, supportive, and encouraging! They accommodate and adapt to the needs of their students making it an exceptional place to improve in the art of karate and get a wonderful work out. The environment is caring and positive. I cannot say enough positive statements about Kitsune Karate!

Jen Cash: I can’t say enough about Kitsune Karate. The dojo is run as a non-profit organization so it can offer classes at affordable rates, not like the for-profit dojos that make you commit to expensive long-term contracts. They have great programming for kids as well as adults. The approach is low key, non-violent, and emphasizes the skill and art of traditional Shotokan Karate. They focus on building physical and mental strength, self-confidence, and respect for self and others rather than placing emphasis on getting the next level belt. At Kitsune, students are taught the fundamentals of Karate with the correct form and precision which helps them learn, grow, perform, and compete without injury. Being at Kitsune, learning from Scott and Amy, and making good friends has been hands down one of the best experiences for my child!

Josh Hill: Excellent place for kids and adults!

David Cross: All the other 5-star reviews are true. This place is the antithesis of "strip mall Karate" joints. It's authentic without being pretentious. There is no nickel-and-dime behavior. Their children's programs are excellent, focused on fun & form over advancement & cutthroat competition.

Ashley Ross: Kitsune is a fantastic place to learn traditional shotokan karate. Scott and Amy are extremely knowledgeable about their art and they help their students bring out their best.

Sari Sanchez: There are so many wonderful things to say about this dojo! The instructors Scott, Amy, Marti, Ashley and Sara are top notch. They are amazing with children and teach in such a fun manner and have incredible skills. They offer the kids so many wonderful opportunities like doing competitions, demonstrations at public events and most importantly, discipline. Price is affordable, times of class works great with after school and weekends.

Andrea Carbon: A world class traditional school of karate do taught by instructors with a strong Japanese trained background of very high national and international reputation. If you want the best of karate in the Twin Cities, this is it!

Emily Sowell: We love kitsune. The staff is dedicated, welcoming and kind. The students work cooperatively to get stronger and better. Affordable and flexiable scheduling.
