In January of 2017, Midwest Musical Imports moved a few blocks down the road to our current location where we doubled the square footage of the store! Our repair staff now is in a large shop with big windows (they even have an avocado tree growing!) and plenty of space for all of their machinery including room for future expansion. The sales staff is spread out in a very roomy area with lots of light and windows. We increased our retail sales floor so you have the space and comfort you need while browsing for your supplies. And last but not least, we added teaching studios and a recital hall to host all sorts of events! We are very proud of our new space–stop by when you’re in the area, we’d love to show you around!

Music programs at School of Rock St. Paul combine one-on-one lessons with group band practices


School of Rock St. Paul delivers a revolutionary music program to students from the city and surrounding communities. Our school is proud to offer lessons in guitar, drums, keyboard, vocals, and more taught by practicing, passionate musicians. With enough practice, students may even one day be able to play at notable venues like First Avenue, a club formerly owned by Prince and featured in the movie, Purple Rain.


The Performance Program at School of Rock St. Paul is our hallmark music program, where tens of thousands of students enroll each year. It consists of a weekly group rehearsal where kids and teens learn by playing rock music's most iconic songs with a band composed of their peers. Students are assigned songs and parts that are tailored to them based on their age, experience and ability to learn new skills and concepts. Students then work through their parts in weekly private music lessons, refining the skills and concepts that those songs introduce. The goal of this curriculum is to prepare kids and teens for live performances. Every few months, School of Rock St. Paul Performance Program students take the stage and play at local St. Paul music venues in front of a live audience.


School of Rock St. Paul's music programs for kids and teens are designed to inspire by getting students on stage and performing. All of our other music education programs focus on readying students for our famous Performance Program. This is where students develop incredible musical skills. Performance Program students have often gone through our Rock 101 program first or have some previous basic music experience. These young musicians will have custom development plans outlined by their instructors with key concepts reinforced during private lessons and group rehearsals, all with the goal of performing live at a St. Paul music venue.


At School of Rock St. Paul, we offer beginner guitar lessons for kids. Our expert guitar instructors guide your child from start to finish with private instruction and weekly group band rehearsals. Every instructor at School of Rock St. Paul is an experienced musician, and they emphasize foundational music theory and technique when teaching guitar lessons to kids. Unlike other St. Paul guitar lessons and programs, School of Rock is designed to get students performing in a band.


It’s never too late to learn to play the guitar. Similar to our kids guitar lessons, School of Rock St. Paul's beginner guitar lessons for adults utilizes a performance-based curriculum. Our experienced instructors teach adult students through popular rock songs, and teach students to play guitar in a way that’s challenging and fun. We believe the best way to learn is by doing, which is why we combine weekly private guitar lessons with group band rehearsals. At School of Rock St. Paul, we teach beginner guitar lessons for adults in our Adult Program. This program gets students performing onstage at a local St. Paul venue.


As students gain skills and experience, we move them along to more challenging programs at higher skill levels. Intermediate and advanced students take the skills they learned in beginner guitar lessons, and layer on more difficult techniques and concepts. School of Rock St. Paul offers advanced guitar lessons for kids and adults that teach by playing challenging classic rock songs and emphasize playing the guitar in a real music venue. Our St. Paul guitar teachers will work with each student to develop a custom learning plan.


All of School of Rock St. Paul’s music teachers are experienced musicians devoted to helping students attain musical proficiency. Our instructors guide students one-on-one to personalize learning, inspire confidence and build social skills.

Lessons are $36 per half hour. Take one trial lesson for $36. If you decide to continue, all you do is switch to monthly payment. If there are 4 lessons in a month, it is $144. If there are 5 lessons in the month it is $180.

We offer 30 minute and 60 minute lessons held once per week. No long term contracts. All lessons are month to month.

We are open 9:00 a.m. - 9:00 PM Monday through Thursday. We are open Saturday from 10:00-3:00 PM. We are open Fridays from 5:00-8:00 PM just for piano lessons. We are closed on Sunday.

2. After work and late hours available! We like to accommodate your busy schedule. Lessons are available: 9:00 a.m.-9:00 PM Monday-Thursday. We are also open 12:00-3:00 on Saturdays.

Instead of waiting in a music retail store showroom, our clients enjoy a spacious and professional parent's lounge with comfortable chairs, Wi-Fi and magazines.

6. Professional teachers. We have a full staff of music teachers, all with either college training or professional performance experience. Our music teachers are dedicated to learning about your personal musical goals and helping you to achieve them. We are confident that we have the right teacher to meet your music lesson needs. 8. Free Parking! We have 17 parking spaces right in front of our building! There is also additional street parking as well.

9. Month to month lessons. St. Paul School of Music does not requite semester minimums for lessons. Every student here is on a month to month basis.

10. Student recitals! St. Paul School of Music students can sign up to perform pieces of music they are working on with their instructor. Performances are held twice a year in a theater in St. Paul. This can include solo performances, duo performances, and ensemble performances.

SPCM offers private and partnered lessons in a variety of instruments, taught by professional musicians who are also inspiring teachers. Lessons meet the needs of each student and are based on the background of the individual and the student’s musical goals.

SPCM is home to a vibrant Suzuki program, dedicated to Dr. Suzuki’s belief that every child can learn to play a musical instrument when provided the right environment. The heart of our Suzuki program is a private lesson that both the student and a parent attend, enhanced by weekly group classes and regular performance opportunities. SPCM’s Suzuki program offers instruction in strings, flute, recorder, and guitar.

SPCM offers robust opportunities to learn and explore chamber music with world-class teachers and performers. With programs throughout the academic year and an annual summer festival, SPCM offers advanced training in small ensemble skills and exposes students to the amazing chamber music repertoire.

SPCM has a diverse offering of group classes each semester, including early childhood and family opportunities, choirs, and adult ensembles.

SPCM’s newest program, launching in fall 2019, is a Contemporary Music program that serves students interested in a variety of styles of popular music. The program’s small class sizes and hands-on, personal attention will prepare students to perform, improvise, write songs, and use technology to record and produce their own music.

As with all of SPCM’s programs, the Contemporary Music program employs exceptional teaching artists, who combine deep knowledge and experience of musical education with their intimate experience as accomplished performers.

SPCM hosts a variety of concert series, workshops, events, and annual camps.

Each summer brings our Summer Music Camp, geared toward aspiring young musicians, as well as the Saint Paul Chamber Music Institute (SPCMI), an immersive two-week chamber music program and festival for college and pre-college string players.
