The bar at the corner of East Hennepin Avenue and Lourdes Place (org. Prince Street) was called Nye’s since1950, when Albin Nye took over Prince Café owned by Hefron’s, a “working man’s bar” occupying the 1880’s building. From the beginning whenever it was open, Al, a former machine shop foreman at Minar Ford, wasdetermined to be there serving drinks to the mostly blue-collar Northeast crowd.
Al retired in 1994 at the age of 79, and he continued to frequent Nye’s as a customer until his death at the age of 89 in 2004. Nye’s Polonaise Room was sold in 1994 to Steve Anderly and subsequently sold to two Northeast descendants Rob and Tony Jacob in 1999. The Jacob Brothers continued to operate the legendary Nye’s Bar.

Amber Crowley: Nye's bar was an absolute blast! The atmosphere was lively and energetic, with a fantastic crowd that really added to the fun vibe. The piano player was exceptionally talented, providing great music that enhanced the overall experience. I had a fantastic time at Nye's bar and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a lively night out. The combination of the vibrant scene, energetic crowd, and skilled piano player made for a memorable evening that I won't soon forget. If you're in the mood for a good time with great music and a fun crowd, Nye's bar is the place to be!
S: Great service and like the new take on the place but who tf wrote this drink menu? Vodka in a mojito? Ginger ale in an old fashion? Assuming new ownership but can you have someone who knows standard recipes write your recipes, even with being "crafted" like tossing blueberries in a mojito without changing the foundational recipe which never includes vodka, please? Christ. At these prices you'd think the foundations you add on would at least be accurate. Also, $12 for drinks that have well liquor is pretty shameful as well, just make them all the $13 drinks with call liquor. Smfh. Great service, though

Mark Skorupa: Stopped here for a beer before the baseball game. The rooftop bar was perfect to get a little sun and enjoy a cold one. Service was a little slow. I think the server forgot we ordered already because she came back to our table and asked if we needed anything so we reminded her we already ordered drinks. Not a big deal...she ran over to the bar and grabbed them. One thing to note; Google shows them closed Monday - Wednesday but they were open on a Monday gameday so make sure you confirm if they are open or not before heading there.

Bruce Magidson: I visited in-between games at the B10 MBB tournament. The bartender was overwhelmed and needed support. It really took a long time to get my beverage.The atmosphere was fun. There's plenty of space to spread out even with a big crowd. The pizza appetizer was very good.

Jay Smelkinson: This was my first time at this venue. It's a very chill place with everyone sitting down to watch the show. The food was good, especially the broccolini. I sat in the upstairs and had a great view of the stage.
Billy Cripe: The music was great. View from the back of the 2nd floor was restricted so be aware of that. They seemed understaffed because service was very slow.
Colin Monette: If you want to experience what every good big city should have at least one of, a great curated jazz club, check the Dakota. The ambiance is dimly lit and cool. Bit of highbrow, classy. It’s dinner and a show and it attracts world class performers alike.

Lynn Martin: We went early, around 7pm, on a Friday for a cocktail. Loved the atmosphere, the view and attentive, friendly service. The drinks were beautiful and tasted fantastic. It was a great place to sit and chat. I can understand how going early is key to finding a place to sit and enjoy the view. Seating is limited. We did not eat there so I can't comment on the food.

Tina Laberdie: Their food is always absolutely delicious. Although we had a small issue with an item, Chef Don reached out to us and genuinely offered assistance. That type of customer service and care is rare to find, today. It is very much appreciated. We have not been to the restaurant, but have only ordered through delivery services, but we definitely plan to visit in person, now.

A teacher, a parent, students, retirees, blue collar folks, criminals, republicans, future criminals, democrats, alcoholics, recovering this or thats, white, black, brown and other. It’s about sipping a drink and talking with whom ever is on a barstool close by. Sharing stories and learning some stuff and most likely you’ll have another just to stay a little longer. A lively patio out back that gets more interesting into the night. Eclectic and diverse live music all year round. I won’t call it a dive bar and it’s not quite a club if anything people come here cause they need a little piece of love.

Christopher Liserio: What a nice place to eat and drink with friends. Great vibe! Waitress was awesome. Asked her opinion between the fish and chips and the chicken sandwich…but before she could answer I just told her to pick and surprise me. Jalen Bell: So when I walked past this place, my first thought was Gordon Ramsey’s famous tv show. Turns out they’re a local business, no affiliation. The burger was absolutely fantastic! Well seasoned, temperature just right, and it had bacon and tangy sauce that was similar to 1000 island. Bonus: They branded the bun with the logo which I thought was cool. Ordered cheesecake for dessert. A bit pricy but well worth the quality of food. I’d def eat here again when I’m in town.

Jessica Husted: Such a great date place. The ambiance is romantic. The lights are dim and the music is great. The food came out very quickly.We had the cauliflower appetizer, which was great. Reya Laing: About a decade ago this place was pretty freaking filthy. Good people. Good music. Just reeeeeally dirty. Laurel, the most recent manager, cleaned it ALL up! It's a wonderful hole-in-the wall dive bar. And it still has good music and good people.Parking: The old Wells Fargo parking lot in the back is free, for now. Very well lit, but unmonitored.Wheelchair accessibility: Yup.
Samuel Brounstein: This friendly, oddballed comedy open mic is still one of the most notorious in town despite its recent purge. At the end of a raucous Thursday the hosts play their hearts out with music.
Renee Jones: My favorite dive bar.The bartenders are great! I usually let my favorite bartender Laurel chose my whiskey for the night. They also have the best gin I've ever had.They have a small Jimmy's menu with delicious pizza and breadsticks. Popcorn and other good dive bar snacks.The schedule has different kinds of events all week. Monday is open mic night for music. Tuesday is Industrial / Dark Synthwave night spun by 2 DJs and music videos on the screens.Thursday is open mic comedy.And Friday and Saturday - local bands from all over the Midwest come play! The sound techs are really great and the crowd is rocking.They have Mrs. Pac-Man, pinball, and darts as well.Vegetarian options: Cheese pizza

Had awesome music, but the crowd wasn't there. The service here is different from what you see from other reviews. Bartender was friendly, food was good - but they close a bit early! You'll end up drinking quite a bit for the night, but that's all ok!Parking is tiny, but doable. There's street parking. The outdoor speakers needs to be turned up a bit to help attract passerbys!Can't really believe other reviews! It was during Covid times, but the atmosphere is decent. Just how you perceive others! You just have to give people a chance at life - they may have an RBF, but let them loosen up a bit then you'll see how enjoyable they are!

Heather Kaiser: This is one of our special occasion places! The food and ambience is always so great. If you have friends visiting from out of town, this is the place you want to take to impress them. We like the bar side, but went for a date night recently and ate on the dinner side. We had an impromptu four course meal that was curated by our server. We took out time and didn't feel rushed. Every server and staff seem to be in a good mood and polite, whether they are bringing you food, cleaning your table, or passing you on your way out. I definitely recommend going about an hour before sunset. PS the setting in the former monk's quarters is beautiful.

The skin was tasty. The black rice and sauce were nice compliments to the meat.🐖 The pork chop was a beautiful, thick cut of meat. We ordered it medium and it may have been ever so slightly cooked a little under medium. Seasoning was perfect and had a nice, tart flavor coming through with the sauerkraut.🍠 🌟 WOW! 🤩 The sweet potatoes were the star of the evening! Sweet, savory, bright and fresh with lemon, crispy skins… just wow! Order the sweet potatoes!!🍰 For dessert, we ordered the chocolate panna cotta and olive oil cake. Both were absolutely stunning and would fit right in at any patisserie! Excellent flavors, textures, and presentation! Faultless!I’ll definitely be coming back!
