Wood From The Hood: what do users think?

MB Colbert: My custom, local, solid ash WFTH dining table was just delivered, and it's a beauty! My dining space required a very specific sized table, and I found little to no retail options. I ordered an online table that looked like it would work, but had to send it back.WFTH’s website gave me inspiration to explore a custom table. I made an inquiry, and WFTH designer Kelley Hermes promptly responded. Through emails and a shop visit, we figured out what direction to take. Kelley sent me drawings of various options and we fine tuned the design; it was a fun process. The skilled woodworkers created a gorgeous and unique table. I love how heavy it is. I’m glad I invested in this heirloom quality piece of furniture.

tim kopp: Great intro class on woodworking with epoxy. All instructors were fun and helpful. Waiting for the next one!

Bryan Murphy: I have always been a fan of Wood From The Hood's mission and purpose. We recently took their inaugural Epoxy 101 class and had an amazing time learning a new skill. We were provided exceptional guidance, encouragement, and commendation for our work. Am looking forward to other classes with WFTH!

Michael Fischer: We searched for months trying to find a dining table for our home and couldn’t find the right style, size or finish for the space. By coincidence, I stumbled upon Wood From the Hood in a magazine I found at a coffee shop. My wife and I checked out their website and got connected with Kelley Hermes, a designer at WFTH.Kelley is amazing! With just a brief conversation getting to know us and our wishes, Kelley came up with multiple creative custom dining table designs. After we settled on a design, the finish person came up with samples of finish options for us to try out in our home. We went through multiple colors and depths of colors until we found just the right one. The result: WFTH created a bold and beautiful custom dining table made with wood from reclaimed ash trees from the Twin Cities that is perfect for our home. We love it!Thank you Kelley and the WFTH team for being easy to work with, creative, patient, and for building us a finely crafted table that will last for generations.

Bill Pine: We love being able to purchase local lumber that is sustainably sourced. The variety is fantastic and the Jess’s customer service keeps us coming back over and over again.

B Johnson Photos Brenda Johnson: Place not to miss if you want interesting, local, completely sustainable boards. Wood from the Hood is a genius idea.

Beard Broad: kinda found this place by accident. happy we did. nice people to work with, they have a very nice selection in all price ranges.

greyfoxice: Absolutely refreshing experience to go into a place where the employees welcome you with a smile and express a true passion for what they do. Highly recommend using their products.

Tom Scheller: and thicknesses. In particular, roasted ash is worth checking out. Beautiful with just an oil finish.

Daniel Miesle: Aways have great service and VERY fair prices. Need to shop around to make sure you consider all options and varieties of wood. Definitely on my go to list !

J & L Design LLC: We love Wood From The Hood! Since they opened the retail storefront, we stop in whenever we have a project that might fit. A gem of a local resource!

Sara Olson: As part of our staff appreciation gifts, we purchased a bulk order of mini charcuterie boards. Not only were the boards beautiful, useful, locally and sustainably sourced gifts, the customer service throughout the process was exceptional. Everyone we worked with was extremely helpful, and the gifts were a huge hit with our staff. Many thanks!

Joe Underhill: A great place to get locally-sourced hardwoods, with a wide selection of materials in their large warehouse. It's nice to work with folks who are passionate and knowledgeable about the material, and have such a large stock of unusual lumber that has been sustainably harvested!

Sandy Saline: Great selection of wood and very helpful staff!

nancy blasberg: love wfth! Always find great resources for our projects and knowledgable help when we need it.

Seth Mabbott: Get some good wood from Wood from the Hood, you should.

Davis Steen: We had an awesome time at Wood From The Hood! We loved all of the products we bought for some fun woodworking projects. Probably our favorite part of the whole place were the zip codes of where the wood came from. It was cool to see that this is wood from a tree we may have seen. Just a small thing, but it meant a lot to us.

Kristen Sundquist: The products are such high quality and the staff is super helpful and friendly. The last time I visited the store for some small off-cuts the staff went above and beyond my expectations in customer service. Can’t recommend Wood from the Hood enough.

As someone deeply invested in construction projects, Siwek has become my unequivocal go-to for all millwork needs. Their commitment to quality and expertise make them a trusted partner in every endeavor.

John McFadden: I’ve known the Siwek since moving here in 1984. They really take care of you. Now they are the best Milwaukee dealer in town. They take care of handling the warranty for you when a tool breaks. All this and the best Millwork and door store in the Midwest. Tom Siwek will give you his time even if he’s doing a ton of other things too.

Woodcraft of Minneapolis: what do users think?

Patrick Hrabe: Love the store

Mark Ouska: This is my go to store for wood working tools and assistance. They have very knowledgeable staff persons with deep experience they willingly share. Woodcraft has some of their own branded products that are focused on quality rather than proprietary lock in like some places. They also offer great woodworking classes.

Maxwell Pichotta: Great place! Stopped in for the first time today and they were all great and extremely helpful, will definitely be coming again

Shane Curtis: Best assistance and advice in the metro. I can't stress enough how amazing every employee has been. When they give advice they clearly differentiate best practice, vendor guidance, and their own experience to help you make a decision. Whether you're an entry level woodworker or a pro you won't regret visiting here for advice on tool use, tool care, wood selection, and wood finishing.

Joe Ragman: I usually go to Rockler, as it is closer, but this is a great place and great group of employees. Very friendly, helpful, and the wood prices seem to be a bit cheaper than Rockler, with a bit different selection.

David Fisher: This is one classy place. Great tools, wood, and classes. They sell high quality merchandise, know all about what they are selling, and stand behind it.

William Thacker: Very helpful and they have a nice inventory.

Whitney Luhring: Got sent over to Woodcraft from home depot because they did not have the hinge I needed. I had a picture of what I needed but it wasn't very good and the worker was extremely helpful and I got exactly what I needed! Thank you!

KrypteKeeper: The people are always very helpful and knowledgeable. If they don't have the answer they will find somebody who does. The store has pretty much everything you need for woodworking as well.

Mary Newell: Love the people there.

Chandra Cockrell: Great help from pros.I have an old three piece bedroom set that had been stored for years and I needed a cleaner/wax. I was expertly shown to the cleaner and wax area. The recommendation was wonderful. I started with cleaning bookshelves. Next will be the bedroom set.I was told they have classes for furniture refinishing. Great for when I need to refinish the old bedroom set.

Terry D: What I like about the store is staff and selection. When you first walk in, they greet you and ask if they can help. If you do not need help, they allow you to browse the store. Once they notice you may be confused or need some guidance, they are ready to step in help. They do not hover over you while you shop. I was in the store many times as I worked on and finished a rolling pin.

Laura Brenden: Amazing service & help. I bought a super beat up 1960s Lane Acclaim coffee table and I wanted to refinish it. I came to this store with notes jotted down after a nose dived into YouTube videos. The sales person helping me have me so much knowledge as to why each product is used… not just a “use this.” Anyway, I couldn’t have been happier with getting his help and as a first timer, I’m super happy with the results of my effort.
