Woodcraft of Minneapolis: what do users think?

Patrick Hrabe: Love the store

Mark Ouska: This is my go to store for wood working tools and assistance. They have very knowledgeable staff persons with deep experience they willingly share. Woodcraft has some of their own branded products that are focused on quality rather than proprietary lock in like some places. They also offer great woodworking classes.

Maxwell Pichotta: Great place! Stopped in for the first time today and they were all great and extremely helpful, will definitely be coming again

Shane Curtis: Best assistance and advice in the metro. I can't stress enough how amazing every employee has been. When they give advice they clearly differentiate best practice, vendor guidance, and their own experience to help you make a decision. Whether you're an entry level woodworker or a pro you won't regret visiting here for advice on tool use, tool care, wood selection, and wood finishing.

Joe Ragman: I usually go to Rockler, as it is closer, but this is a great place and great group of employees. Very friendly, helpful, and the wood prices seem to be a bit cheaper than Rockler, with a bit different selection.

David Fisher: This is one classy place. Great tools, wood, and classes. They sell high quality merchandise, know all about what they are selling, and stand behind it.

William Thacker: Very helpful and they have a nice inventory.

Whitney Luhring: Got sent over to Woodcraft from home depot because they did not have the hinge I needed. I had a picture of what I needed but it wasn't very good and the worker was extremely helpful and I got exactly what I needed! Thank you!

KrypteKeeper: The people are always very helpful and knowledgeable. If they don't have the answer they will find somebody who does. The store has pretty much everything you need for woodworking as well.

Mary Newell: Love the people there.

Chandra Cockrell: Great help from pros.I have an old three piece bedroom set that had been stored for years and I needed a cleaner/wax. I was expertly shown to the cleaner and wax area. The recommendation was wonderful. I started with cleaning bookshelves. Next will be the bedroom set.I was told they have classes for furniture refinishing. Great for when I need to refinish the old bedroom set.

Terry D: What I like about the store is staff and selection. When you first walk in, they greet you and ask if they can help. If you do not need help, they allow you to browse the store. Once they notice you may be confused or need some guidance, they are ready to step in help. They do not hover over you while you shop. I was in the store many times as I worked on and finished a rolling pin.

Laura Brenden: Amazing service & help. I bought a super beat up 1960s Lane Acclaim coffee table and I wanted to refinish it. I came to this store with notes jotted down after a nose dived into YouTube videos. The sales person helping me have me so much knowledge as to why each product is used… not just a “use this.” Anyway, I couldn’t have been happier with getting his help and as a first timer, I’m super happy with the results of my effort.

Wood From The Hood: what do users think?

MB Colbert: My custom, local, solid ash WFTH dining table was just delivered, and it's a beauty! My dining space required a very specific sized table, and I found little to no retail options. I ordered an online table that looked like it would work, but had to send it back.WFTH’s website gave me inspiration to explore a custom table. I made an inquiry, and WFTH designer Kelley Hermes promptly responded. Through emails and a shop visit, we figured out what direction to take. Kelley sent me drawings of various options and we fine tuned the design; it was a fun process. The skilled woodworkers created a gorgeous and unique table. I love how heavy it is. I’m glad I invested in this heirloom quality piece of furniture.

tim kopp: Great intro class on woodworking with epoxy. All instructors were fun and helpful. Waiting for the next one!

Bryan Murphy: I have always been a fan of Wood From The Hood's mission and purpose. We recently took their inaugural Epoxy 101 class and had an amazing time learning a new skill. We were provided exceptional guidance, encouragement, and commendation for our work. Am looking forward to other classes with WFTH!

Michael Fischer: We searched for months trying to find a dining table for our home and couldn’t find the right style, size or finish for the space. By coincidence, I stumbled upon Wood From the Hood in a magazine I found at a coffee shop. My wife and I checked out their website and got connected with Kelley Hermes, a designer at WFTH.Kelley is amazing! With just a brief conversation getting to know us and our wishes, Kelley came up with multiple creative custom dining table designs. After we settled on a design, the finish person came up with samples of finish options for us to try out in our home. We went through multiple colors and depths of colors until we found just the right one. The result: WFTH created a bold and beautiful custom dining table made with wood from reclaimed ash trees from the Twin Cities that is perfect for our home. We love it!Thank you Kelley and the WFTH team for being easy to work with, creative, patient, and for building us a finely crafted table that will last for generations.

Bill Pine: We love being able to purchase local lumber that is sustainably sourced. The variety is fantastic and the Jess’s customer service keeps us coming back over and over again.

B Johnson Photos Brenda Johnson: Place not to miss if you want interesting, local, completely sustainable boards. Wood from the Hood is a genius idea.

Beard Broad: kinda found this place by accident. happy we did. nice people to work with, they have a very nice selection in all price ranges.

greyfoxice: Absolutely refreshing experience to go into a place where the employees welcome you with a smile and express a true passion for what they do. Highly recommend using their products.

Tom Scheller: and thicknesses. In particular, roasted ash is worth checking out. Beautiful with just an oil finish.

Daniel Miesle: Aways have great service and VERY fair prices. Need to shop around to make sure you consider all options and varieties of wood. Definitely on my go to list !

J & L Design LLC: We love Wood From The Hood! Since they opened the retail storefront, we stop in whenever we have a project that might fit. A gem of a local resource!

Sara Olson: As part of our staff appreciation gifts, we purchased a bulk order of mini charcuterie boards. Not only were the boards beautiful, useful, locally and sustainably sourced gifts, the customer service throughout the process was exceptional. Everyone we worked with was extremely helpful, and the gifts were a huge hit with our staff. Many thanks!

Joe Underhill: A great place to get locally-sourced hardwoods, with a wide selection of materials in their large warehouse. It's nice to work with folks who are passionate and knowledgeable about the material, and have such a large stock of unusual lumber that has been sustainably harvested!

Sandy Saline: Great selection of wood and very helpful staff!

nancy blasberg: love wfth! Always find great resources for our projects and knowledgable help when we need it.

Seth Mabbott: Get some good wood from Wood from the Hood, you should.

Davis Steen: We had an awesome time at Wood From The Hood! We loved all of the products we bought for some fun woodworking projects. Probably our favorite part of the whole place were the zip codes of where the wood came from. It was cool to see that this is wood from a tree we may have seen. Just a small thing, but it meant a lot to us.

Kristen Sundquist: The products are such high quality and the staff is super helpful and friendly. The last time I visited the store for some small off-cuts the staff went above and beyond my expectations in customer service. Can’t recommend Wood from the Hood enough.

DF Carpentry LLC: what do users think?

John Marshall: They built a garage entry staircase for my elderly parents that were in need of a safer system. Great price and very easy to work with. Highly recommended!

Aaron Zehringer: Dusty and his team were very professional and did great work, very responsive and thorough in all of my communication. I highly recommend them and I would definitely use them again.

Natalie Melcher: Very responsive and easy to work with.

Parker Hoen: Hired Dusty to do the baseboards, window casing and extension jambs, door casing, and crown in our kitchen. He was awesome to work with, punctual, obviously has tons of experience and the kitchen turned out awesome.I don’t know what projects I will be doing in the future but I know we will be hiring Dusty to help with any finish carpentry.

John Turitto: Positive:Professionalism,Punctuality,Quality,Responsiveness,ValueDF Carpentry did a superior job. Dusty is professional, reliable, and did excellent work.Services:Trim carpentry services,Finish carpentry services

Bruce Alpern: I hired Dusty to install baseboard trim on most of the house and crown moulding on the kitchen cabinets. He did an excellent job on the project, the cuts and corners were tight and it looks as it should. He knows his craft and it shows in the work he does.Dusty was a pleasure to work with. He is trustworthy, down to earth, very easy to work with, plus he's a nice guy. During the project I decided not to do something that was pre-planned and immediately he knocked off the labor charges which would have incurred, I didn't have to ask which was nice. I do a lot of DIY projects myself so I feel I know what excellent work looks like and Dusty came through for me. You can be assured you'll be pleased with hiring him. When I redo my staircase I will be hiring Dusty to do the work.Services:Trim carpentry services,Finish carpentry services,Installation

Amanda Winseck: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,ResponsivenessThis is the 2nd time that I have used Dusty’s services & I could not be more pleased with the shiplap work he did in my bathroom! I greatly appreciated the attention to detail, skill & craftsmanship of his work & those of his crew. When it is time for the next project I will most definitely use him again.Services:Finish carpentry services,Carpentry services

Grizz Erickson: , we just decided to hire a professional to get the job done quickly.I found DF Carpentry by doing a search on Google Maps for "trim carpenter". I contacted a number of different places and Dusty was the first to answer the phone and speak to me. That was a huge win for him in my view.Below are a few positives and one negative

Jessie Ryan: Positive:Professionalism,Punctuality,Quality,Responsiveness,ValueWe couldn’t be happier with the work we had done by DF Carpentry! Dusty and his crew were great to work with and we will be having them back for future projects! Dusty was great at communicating and was a ton of help when it came to design. Their work is very quality and just what we hoped for!Services:Trim carpentry services,Carpentry services

Betsy Walstrom: , but I felt like his prices were more than fair and he did great work. Also, for women looking to manage their own projects - he never deferred to my husband or talked past me. He never talked down to me or assumed I didn't know anything. I happen to have some knowledge in the field and when I was meeting with carpenters to quote my project it was important to me to work with someone who could work efficiently with a woman and wouldn't do things like mansplain or over charge me for things just because they think I don't know better. Dusty never did those things and was great about asking my opinion, offering solutions, and explaining small issues he ran into. I would highly recommend working with DF Carpentry!Service:Installation

Cameron Barry: Dusty at DF Carpentry did a fantastic job for us. We had a room full of floor to ceiling windows that he replaced the trim around. They are at odd angles and were not installed uniformly by the original builder in the 50’s but Dusty spent the extra time with custom fitting and made sure everything was perfect when he was done. Very responsive and punctual. I couldn’t recommend him more and wouldn’t hesitate giving DF Carpentry a call for our next project.Services:Installation,Remodeling

Lindsay Gephart: Positive:Professionalism,Punctuality,QualityThey did a great job on our basement remodel installing trim and doors. Very professional, timely and easy to work with! Would definitely recommend.Service:Remodeling

Julie Olmsted: Six months ago, I didn't know what "finish carpentry" even was. But then we needed doors and trim and baseboards in our newly refinished basement, and I went searching on The Internet for help. Thank you, The Internet, for connecting me with Dusty. I'm so pleased!I spoke with a guy from a different business, but he seemed entirely disinterested in doing this project for us. I had to remind him to schedule a walk-through, I had to remind him to send us a quote. And then he ghosted me. Rude, bro.Thankfully, I found Dusty. He was so, so responsive. He got back to me immediately about the project, we went back-and-forth about the details, and then he sent me a super reasonable quote. He helped us coordinate the painting, scheduled everything, and communicated about timing at every turn.Best of all, he and his crew did a BEAUTIFUL job. Seriously, I hardly recognize our space it's so well-done. They finished when they said they would, cleaned up the space really well, and were overall super great to work with.13/10 would recommend.Service:Installation

Rachel Ford: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,ResponsivenessDusty was fantastic to work with. Very responsive and engaging. Went the extra mile to help find the look I wanted. The whole process was stress free!

David Antonenko: Excellent work by Dusty and his coworker. Very open to suggestions, showed up when scheduled. Went out of his way to solve or correct a problem. Price very reasonable for the quality of the work. He was pleasant, cleaned up work space so it looked like he had not been there. Highly recommend him. 10 out of 10.Service:Remodeling

T. Halvorson: DF Carpentry LLC installed 8 interior doors in a 1957 Rambler House. Dusty the owner did all the measuring and sizing of the all the doors. Dusty cut all the mortises for the hinges and all the bore holes and latch bores for the door handles and latches. Dusty cut all the edges on each door to size the doors properly so they fit in all the existing door openings. Dusty's work really met my expectations. All the new doors Dusty installed fit far better than the existing doors that Dusty replaced. Dusty fixed preexisting conditions and all the new doors fit great and opened and closed without issues. After about a month and a half a small portion of an upper corner of one door started to hit the door jamb on the striker side. I called Dusty and he came out and fixed the issue in no time. That is the most important thing in my view from a vendor or business is that they stand behind their work and support the customers they serve. Dusty did that and that stands out. The minor issue of the door was likely multifactorial, older home, summer humidity, etc, but Dusty was there from start to finish and whenever I had questions or concerns. I would definitely hire DF Carpentry with any finish Carpentry needs I have in the future.

Susan Brunner: Positive:Professionalism,Punctuality,Quality,Responsiveness,ValueWe had Dusty come out and replace our barn doors with standard doors. He did a wonderful job and is very responsive to e-mails and phone calls. We look forward to recommending his services to our friends!

Kaylee Wissink: Positive:Professionalism,Punctuality,Quality,Responsiveness,ValueDusty and his team did an awesome job on our basement. We will definitely contact him for future projects!Service:Installation

MPLS MAKE: what do users think?

Alyssa Swenson: I took the Scandinavian Knife Making class with Dan and Theo at MPLS MAKE. It was awesome!! They make you feel comfortable using tools that you’re not used to, and encourage you throughout the process. It was really fun and we all ended up with unique, beautiful knives!

Miranda Woodrich: This was my first visit to MPLS MAKE for a welding course by Theo. I enjoyed the class, was impressed by the scope of instruction given, and appreciated the patience and guidance by the instructor. We learned about different welding machines, safety, how to use the equipment which included cutting metal, and each student was given multiple opportunities for hands on welding experience in the class. It was more than I would have imagined in a friendly and relaxed environment. I can't wait to take more classes here and explore MPLS MAKE.

Daniel Goettsch: Just finished the Scandinavian Knife-making class - had a great time and came away with a really cool knife! Accessible and skill-building for any level. Great opportunity to meet and build community with other makers. Theo and Danica were warm and gracious hosts/teachers. Will be back!

Tonya Stanina: My daughter and I took a welding class with Theo! He was a great instructor! If I could! I would give 10 stars! This place is amazing!!! We will definitely be back!

Lily Peterson: The welding classes with Theo are wonderful. He is knowledgeable and passionate about the work they’re doing at MLPS MAKE. Completely recommend this place.

Johnny Davy: My brother and I just did the welding class with Theo and it was fantastic. He was a great teacher. It was very casual and comfortable but at the same time very informative. We will definitely be back for another class! Thanks!

laura greenlee: This place is absolutely amazing. It has great tool options, storage, and above all else community. The owners have put so much thought and intention in having makers of varied levels feel welcome. Best maker space I have used in my last 5 years of making.

Todd Olsen: Took part in the offered knife making class with my dad and oldest son. We had a blast! Highly recommended. Dan/Theo are great instructors and great people. The progression through the knife making process was clear to follow and at the end of the event everyone in the class had amazing looking pieces. Kudos to MPLS MAKE. Thank you for creating a space for people to gather and unlock their creativity.

Daniel Schuna: Took the knife class. Theo and Danica were very attentive, helpful and friendly throughout the process. I hadn't done any woodworking since high school and they helped me create a knife that I couldn't be happier with. Had a TON of fun and will definitely be taking more classes here. Highly recommended for a fun weeknight activity.

Mike Fisher: I would highly recommend MPLS MAKE..check it out!

Michael Rawlins: Awesome experience! Would highly recommend! So much fun and the staff is fantastic

Nisie: I have never visit this place yet, but based on the reviews and the service its offering i am sold! I cant wait to join the club, i am out of towner but i a, sure this will make me feel like Home… thanks to you all.

Nick Dooley: are knowledgeable, helpful, great to work with. Definitely recommend and wish they had a located out by where we live now.

Kolya Kvas: I was a member here for over 2 years, MPLS Make is the best creative environment you could ask for. Through the years it felt like a family as well as my full time job but seeing all the members create and pursue their interests is motivating so the days went by fast and the knowledge pool is infinite. Here is why you should support this shop.1. The people are all interesting, helpful and supportive.2. The variety of tools and machines make anything possible, if you want to save time and up your product time this is a great choice.3. It might seem a little steep but its not just a hobby, Knowledge, experience and comfort are a resource in itself. Thanks for reading and good luck!also thanks Dan and Theo... maybe one more :P

mbethm21: My husband and I took the welding course and it was really great. I was a little nervous at first since I immediately thought danger, but Dan and Theo did such a great job explaining the process that I felt confident and safe. The class was informational, interesting and hands on fun! Great for a creative date night.

Blake Johnson: Had a great time at the Wednesday night welding! Theo and Dan did a great job teaching and we all had a great time. Highly recommended.

James Declan: This is one of the best makerspaces I have ever been too. Granted I have not seen everything they offer, but I have a couple other places to compare them too. I used their wide-belt sander to flatten an end grain cutting board and not only did it take 5 minutes, but it only took off about 3/32 in total, not to mention leaving a wonderful finish. If you need to use any of their services, need not ponder, it is worth it considering I drove an hour to get there. I will definitely be considering a membership in the future.

Kayla Fruetel: Experience was positive.

Adam Schwartz: I took a welding class from Theo & Dan. The class was excellent in breadth, depth, and practical skills. Theo & Dan were both flexible, knowledgeable, and practical instructors. This was a wonderful, energizing experience!

Xav Lee: Dan and some other guy there was really helpful. Had a big slab width too large for normal planers, but they still helped me to figure out a solution and got it done. Very affordable rate for the planing service. Couldn't be more happy with the results. By the way, my slab was warped, bowed, cracked before I brought it in, now it's flat as can be.

KNO Woodworks: what do users think?

Wanda Mayhew: We are so glad that we chose KNO Woodworks for our custom fence. The craftsmanship and attention to detail by Nick and Jackson was superb. Nick was enthusiastic about our project, had great suggestions and even developed a positive rapport with the neighbors. He was easy to work with and construction was completed quickly with minimal disruption. We love our new fence and have received many compliments from the neighbors.

Beth Ritchie: I had an old fence repaired, new fences built and most recently a beautiful pergola built by KNO Woodworks. The work was done timely, with quality materials and the staff are excellent. They had wonderful suggestions and the designs were exactly what I wanted. I couldn't be happier with the results. A company truly about producing an amazing product and having satisfied customers.

Andrew White: Five stars. 10 out of 10. My wife and I truly could not be any happier with our experience with KNO Woodworks and we would strongly recommend this company to anyone who is thinking about building a fence. From our first phone call through completion of the fence we were fully informed as to the status of the project, always made aware of any changes that came up right away, and we also felt that our project was very important to KNO and that the fence was being built to a high standard. KNO did a great job answering all of our questions and helping us out with their expertise regarding different elements of the fence build. It was also really cool to see KNO build this fence in just six or so hours. KNO showed up on time as scheduled, worked hard, were very clean and built a stunning fence that we love. In our opinion the price was fair and the fence is worth every penny. As an aside, I have already received multiple compliments on the fence from my neighbors. Again, a huge thank you to Nick, Matt, Rock, and the rest of the crew. Thank you again and I fully recommend this company.Andy and McKenzie in South Minneapolis

Joseph Larson: Working with KNO Woodworks was legitimately the best experience I've ever had working on any type of home project. From my first introductory meeting with Nick all the way through my build day with Matt and the crew, KNO was 100% transparent and a pleasure to work with. The quality of their work is legitimately unmatched, I couldn't be any happier with the finished product. It's so good it makes me want to have another fence built!

Matt Brandl: Great service. They came and fixed my fence post even though it was buried in a ton of concrete and build weirdly.

Masha Hoy: Would definitely recommend! KNO built two 6 ft. cedar swing gates with minimalistic arbors for us. Nick came out for an estimate and then worked with me on the design, and really listened to what I wanted. Colin did logistics and scheduling and was very communicative and accessible. Then Andy and Jackson came and set the posts / built the gates and they're perfect! They're exactly as I hoped and even a little better because Andy and Jackson are total craftsmen and did an excellent and thoughtful job. Before heading out, I pointed out some wobbly deck stairs to see if they can give me an estimate sometime and Andy and Jackson just fixed them right then and there! I was impressed and grateful. The price seemed totally fair for the great work. I'll hire KNO next time, too.

Marissa Hadfield: Working with Nick, whose enthusiasm and expertise were evident, was an absolute pleasure from start to finish. The attention they paid to detail is exceptional, the craftsmanship is top-notch, and it's clear they take great pride in their work. I couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out; I can’t recommend them enough!

Megan Hoffman: Beautiful craftsmanship and great company to work with!

Bernard Ackley: These guys are punctual and dependable and they pay attention to your plans. Is your discussing the job. They tell you what they can do and what they cannot do ahead of time so there were no surprises. I used them twice And would again in a blink.

Lucas Havens:

Yvonne Simone:

mike spores: I visited the store to get a router part for a small project I had. I was greeted at the door and asked if I needed help. I Showed them what I was working with and they provided me a solution I may not have come up with on my own. The experience stood out enough that when I walked to my car I thought you dont get service like that anymore in retail. If you need anything woodworking or have questions this is the place. Im writing the review because good service deserves recognition

Danielle Duport: We had a great experience at Rockler woodworking. We had stopped at a few bigger named stores to try and piece together everything needed for our woodworking projects. Rockler was a one stop shop for us. We really appreciated the time they took to help answer our questions and ensure we bought the correct equipment rather than trying to upsell everything. We will be back!

Tom Duffy: Anything you need was woodwork here’s where you go and if you don’t know how to do it, they have a class to teach you

A & A Millwork: what do users think?

Manish Patel: This is a family-run business. Though they are a little rough around the edges at times, they came through with shining colors. Our front entry door was damaged by an attempted burglary which they replaced. Though it took some time to have the new custom door manufactured and installed, they were easy to contact and walked us through the entire process. The installation was professional and efficient despite it being only about 10 degrees outside. We were really happy with the end result with our beautiful door. The kicker is that our insurance company was balking at the cost of the replacement, and were only going to pay half the cost, however, A&A Millwork talked to them and convinced them after we had already paid for the door, that in fact, we paid less than the original door was worth and that we actually could have spent much more to replace the door. The insurance company promptly cut us a check for the full amount of the installation. The only point I want to make about that is A&A already had their money and they had no obligation to help us, nor did I ask them to. Simply, they went out of their way to help us, which I think makes them unique and definitely would highly recommend them to anyone needing a custom door.
