It’s january 15th, and we’re thrilled to finally unveil our interior design projects for the flower magazine inaugural showhouse! our firm was awarded three spaces: the morning bar, the wine room, and the secret speakeasy—which we’ll highlight today.⁣ ⁣ this speakeasy, accessible only through a hidden wall panel in the wine room, is situated in the lower level of the house where no windows or natural light is available. therefore, our challenge was to bring the beauty of the outdoors indoors. the first step in accomplishing this ethereal effect was the color scheme: the palette of blush pink, mint, celadon, black, white, and gold paired with reflective finishes and bold stone choices (thank you temmermarble!) drove the visual narrative. architecturally-speaking, geometric curves are everywhere—from the carved oval insets found in the wainscoting, throughout the bar, and the banquette (upholstered in fabrics and pillows from our brand new @kravetinc Trad Nouveau collection). the cabinetry and extensive millwork were all designed by our office in collaboration with our builder, young & meathe. on the bar, we installed two stationary table lamps for additional ambient light.⁣ ⁣ to downplay the lack of windows, we cheated the eye with the inclusion of a fabulous, hand-painted custom mural by graciestudio. its organic, branchy pattern provided a romantic backdrop for three salon-style groupings of artwork. modern and traditional furniture from our partners hancockandmoore and maitland_smith were unapologetically mixed together. ⁣ ⁣ historically, speakeasies, home offices, underground lairs and other recreational spaces have often been designed with men in mind, while work spaces of servitude, i.e. the kitchen, have stereotypically been reserved for others. our design team sought to challenge that precedence by creating an underground garden that embraced elegant and fashion-forward aesthetics: a secret speakeasy with a woman’s relaxation and world view as our muse.⁣ ⁣ Photography: brian bieder photography⁣ Floral Designer: kirk whitfield

The installation went smoothly and everything looks great. We are definitely pleased. They pretty disappear into the window frame when not in use, which is what we wanted. And the black-out does what its supposed to do perfectly when the sun comes in too strongly in the afternoon.
