Tim Reede guitars are playable art! They look great, play great and sound great! I used Tim's guitars on my Christmas album Emmanuel and on my video for "The Gift". You can tell Tim puts in the time and attention to detail that is needed to make a fine guitar. I’ve worked with Tim Reede twice, on both a Phoenix and more recently a Mercury guitar. Both electric guitars are exceptionally-high quality instruments, meticulously crafted, and built to last. Tim takes great care to know and understand the needs of his customers and values the relationships he forms. I very much enjoyed the time spent in his shop talking about guitars and learning about his craft. While he does allow some modifications to his designs based on customer desires, I respect his need to maintain the general specs he’s worked to perfect to call his own. Moreover, he’s very willing to work with his customers to offer suggestions in terms of electronics and hardware, and there is plenty of room for personal choices in terms of radius, fret material, and finishes, for example. Tim has done two custom basses for me, and his work is without a doubt is the gold standard. His eye for and attention to detail is second to none. As a one-man shop, he's a master of all the luthier skills from design to making sawdust to delivery of a perfect instrument. From historic designs to guitars with modern features, each has its strengths and purpose. When it comes to guitar construction you could say I am a traditionalist in a some ways. I use hot hide glue because it is acoustically transparent. It dries very hard, allowing vibrations to transfer cleanly. I am also pushing guitar design to a new level by adding elements that add comfort, veratility and increase sound quality.
