Kelsey Briann Faddler: This is one of our favorite spots. You can paddle boat and mini golf. There are a lot of Pokemon Go stops. There is an amphitheater. They have a farmers market in the summer. There are some walking paths and swings. The public restrooms are always clean. In the winter there is a warming house and you can ice skate.Restrooms: The restrooms are very clean.

Walking paths are great, mini golf, paddle boats have two duck ones now, music on certain nights, movies but only three during the whole summer now a bummer.skating in winter. Such beautiful scenery. Joe Delgado: Great facilities and coaches. Son started here with Learn to Skate when he was 4, and Coach Corey had such a great rapport with the kids. They’re intense about hockey, but that’s kind of the point. My son still loves it.

Aaron Barnhart: Rink itself is very nice but I just went there to get my skates sharpened today and there must have been 100 people in the lobby and not a single person in the front desk area. There's no bell to ring or any way of knowing who works there, so after waiting 15 minutes I left annoyed that I drove there.

As a city that was built out in the 1950s and 1960s, Bloomington has many facilities that need to be upgraded or replaced. That is why the City is proposing a long-term plan, called Bloomington Forward, to invest in local projects that support health, wellness, athletics and recreation.
The state legislature has authorized the City to present a half-percent sales tax option to help pay for Bloomington Ice Garden renovations, a new Community Health and Wellness Center, and improvements to Moir/Central Park and the Nine Mile Creek corridor. Bloomington residents helped shape the plan, and will get a final say on the sales tax option during the general election on November 7.
Needed renovations at BIG include: New refrigeration and mechanical systems, new roof, better accessibility, and additional improvements to increase utilization and enhance the user experience, including seating and locker rooms. The estimated cost is $37.272 million. The City has received $2.272 million from the State of Minnesota for predesign work.
The Bloomington Ice Garden opened in 1970 with one rink. BIG now has three rinks, one of them Olympic-sized, and boasts a seating capacity of 2,500.

Starlette Skye: We make it to the Ice Garden only about once a year for an open skating session. Open skating is offered on random days during the week for do-able fee. Skate rental [both figure and hockey] is available too. I'd suggest checking their website prior to visiting for the most up-to-date information. We were there a few weeks ago for a session that was being offered free, with skate rental included. We are complete novices and had a tricky time even walking in the skates but, we made it to the ice. Thankfully, they do offer 'Skate Mates' in adult and children's sizes. These are IMMENSELY popular with those of us who are not very agile on ice skates. I did notice there were not nearly enough for the apparent demand for them though. Perhaps this was due to the session being offered free so, more folks decided to show up than would on a typical paid session? Staff was readily available at the counter and lounge area if assistance was needed. There is a also a snack bar counter that was open and very busy while we were there. It appeared to be clean and offered plenty of restrooms. After we did our best skating, we explored the Garden. There was a PeeWee hockey game going on in one of the other arenas. We watched that for a few minutes before leaving. The Ice Garden has recently been granted a new lease on life with Bloomington voters electing to add the very-much-needed repairs/upgrades to keep the complex operating at its fullest potential. It serves a large population of attendees for varying reasons...all year long. It's fantastic to know it will now continue to do so for years to come.

The two Brooklyn Park ice arenas provide 6,700 hours of indoor ice time annually. Approximately 100,000 skaters and spectators use these two facilities each year. The arenas are used for ice hockey and figure skating, and serve as the home rink for the North Metro Girls’ Hockey Team, Totino Grace Boys’ Hockey Team, the North Metro Youth Hockey Association, and the Three Rivers Figure Skating Club.
Both arenas are adjoined in the upper level by a warm area that allows a great view of Arena 2. The warm area can be used as a multi functional facility such as a lunch room, video room and instructional area.
Year-round classes are offered for ages 3 to adult and for ability levels ranging from beginner to competition level. Contact the Community Activity Center for more information. Off-ice ballet and stretching are held in the Arena 2 figure skating room. The room features mirrored walls and ballet bars.
Located adjacent to the Community Activity Center, the Armory gymnasium is available for dryland training with programs such as basketball, volleyball and other area activities.
Skating parties must take place during our scheduled open skate times
$5/child includes admission, rentals and use of warm area room for party
