Formerly called The Whole Learning School, and then Academy of Whole Learning, we were founded in 2003 by a group of parents of children with neurodiversities. They knew their children had potential, and they built a school to unlock that potential.

We have grown each year, whether by adding grades and electives to our K-12 school, or adding more services, such as behavioral and mental health therapy services, summer camp, and most recently, an adult program.

Just as we’ve grown, so has enrollment at our school and in each of our programs. In fact, numbers have more than quadrupled in the past 10 years, as more and more families realize we offer not just an alternative, but an avenue to unlock the potential for learning, belonging, and succeeding.

We transform lives by addressing the holistic academic, social, emotional and mental health needs of the neurodiverse community.

Every day we work to transform the lives of individuals and families affected by autism spectrum disorder and learning disabilities. MICC is a nonprofit organization located in the heart of Richfield only 15 minutes south of Minneapolis. Since our beginning in 1996, our unique campus, located in the Colony Apartments complex, allows our participants to truly engage in an experiential learning and apartment-living environment.


Our programs are focused on delivering curriculum and supports in the areas of independent living skills, social and emotional learning, career skills and employment, and healthy living. We believe our participants can fulfill their potential and live an independent, vibrant life.

We are all the same, we want a sense of purpose, an identity, and to be able to contribute to our community. Having a reason to get up each morning, and a place to go and to have someone be excited to see you is exactly why employment and community is so important.

We offer five distinct programs starting with our Summer Program, leading to our three-year College and Careers Programs, and next, with our life-long Community Program. Finally, our vibrant Social Program is integrated into our summer, three-year and life-long program options.

At age 18, any person is considered a competent adult unless a petition is filed for guardianship in probate court. The session will review recent changes in the guardianship law which increase a person’s rights and an option called “supported decision making”. The training will also describe the individual powers assigned by the court, outline the responsibilities of the guardian, and offer options to complete the process at no cost.

This introductory session will provide basic information on the difference between guardianship and supported decision making and conservatorship.

Parents, legal representatives and persons with disabilities. This event is open to the public and MICC families and participants.

Sometimes gifted programs are not enough. Sometimes special education services are not enough. Our school doesn't provide more gifted programming or better accommodations... we provide 2e programming. We aim to recognize and celebrate our students' strengths while accepting and supporting their learning differences. Since 2014, we've seen how small group learning, personalized programming, and strong partnerships among students, parents, and staff can improve the lives of our students.
